Clinical Trials Manager, UVRI-IAVI HIV Vaccine Program

Dr. Annet Nanvubya is a practicing Medical Doctor and researcher currently working with the UVRI-IAVI HIV Vaccine Program Ltd as the Clinical Trials Manager. She holds a PhD in Medical Sciences from the University of Antwerp in Belgium. As the Clinical Trials Manager, She is responsible for overseeing the conduct of clinical trials at the UVRI-IAVI HIV Vaccine Program Ltd. For the past 21 years, she participated in different epidemiological studies in high risk fishing communities and phase I/II clinical trials which evaluated the safety and immunogenicity of various vaccine and drug candidates. She has also served as a co-Principal Investigator for two phase I/II HIV Vaccine trials and she is currently part of the clinical team that is conducting the first phase III PrEP trial evaluating the safety of cabotegravir among high risk women in fishing communities. She is currently a Principal Investigator of a Phase III COVID-19 trial that is evaluating the safety and efficacy of the Moderna vaccine in Africa.

She is a member of the Executive management committee for UVRI-IAVI HIV Vaccine Program. 

She coordinates an EDCTP funded Reciprocal Monitoring Scheme (RMS) which was initiated by the East African Consortium for Clinical Research (EACCR) for strategic quality management of health research in Africa. 

She is passionate about HIV/AIDS Biomedical research and improving sexual and reproductive health through conduct of related research.
